Much is being speculated about senator-elect Tim Johnson, D SD, who is currently critcal after brain surgery. congenital arteriovenous malformation. It's not that he's dead, he ain't. If he's incapacitated to the point where he cant vote, that leaves the senate effectively 50D 49R (Counting I's and I-D's in the D column.) Gridlock, yay, but the D's can still choose a majority leader. I am unclear on the partisan makeup of the SD legislature - maybe they can rush through a new law covering how vacancies are filled, if one should happen to arise.
