Usually election law stuff is pretty dry and boring to those or whom this isn't an obsession...
GOP congresscritter Mark Foley has resigned from congress after some racy letters to male teen congressional pages. His name remains on the ballot but the votes will go to his replacement (not yet named?) The district tends GOP usually.
Watching this unfold on cable at home, where I don't yet have net access, i figured there'd be more info online.

They seem harmless, from what I've seen so far.
These on the other hand at least justify the "creepy" label.

The language gets much more graphic, too graphic to be broadcast, and at one point the congressman appears to be describing Internet sex.
Federal authorities say such messages could result in Foley's prosecution, under some of the same laws he helped to enact. ABC News.

The emails have been circulating since they were posted on an anonymous blog on Sunday....“This is nothing more than a political attack and an attempt at the worst kind of character assassination.”
The Mahoney campaign did not specify what wrongdoing might have been committed, but there are strict rules about contacts between Members of Congrss and the teen-age pages who serve as their messengers.

If I'm understanding this correctly, that means that the leaders of the House Republican caucus have known for almost a year that a member of their caucus was having cybersex with an underage congressional page. And apparently they did nothing about it.
I think this story is about to get a lot bigger.

Josh: You aren't understanding it correctly. The allegations of cycbersex weren't disclosed until the past few days. The emails to the page were tame and not a bsis for the leadership to take action at that time.
