I'm a news junkie. I want instant gratification. So right now we don't know if a referendum passed in British Columbia, Canada, to have a single transferable vote.
Meanwhile, the head of government there was re-elected. His party is called Liberal because it is conservative. The opposition New Democrats, aka the same old socialists,
regained some 40% of the seats.

update: current numbers, still incomplete, look about 57.4%. This isn't the 60% needed to pass, but is a strong enough message that some kind of legislative action is likely.
Before counting out the new democrats, with 41%, it's worth noting the greens had 9%, so if the two join forces at some future date, that would change thing. It could be argued the greens played a spoiler role as with nader in 2000.
